EMMABODA [ESMA]
Version 2.0
for MS Flight Simulator 2004

Flight Simulator scenery covering Emmaboda airport (ESMA) and it´s surroundings, in southeastern Sweden. Version 2.0

Freeware scenery for FS2004 made with FSSC, EOD, Coast Line Maker, LWMDraw, Afcad, ObPlacer and FSLandclass.

This is a scenery by Erik Björnwall. You might also want to visit the SDT website!

NEWS IN VERSION 2.0

1. New afcad file where roads close to the airport and the ground on the "Flygts" industrial area in Emmaboda have been hardened, partly from aestetical reasons, partly to pave the way for Peter Augustesen´s dynamic scenery, available as a recommended addon to the Emmaboda scenery.

2. Buildings on the Flygts industrial area. Flygts is a large and dominating industry in Emmaboda and the place just doesn´t look right without at least a simple rendition of this complex.

3. Some small improvements on the airport.

If you already have Emmaboda version 1.0 installed, please remove it and install version 2.0 according to instructions below instead. If you don´t have version 1.0 it´s even simpler; just do as it says below!

INSTALLATION
To be placed and added to and activated in FS2004 in the usual way. I have found it best to place the scenery outside of the simulator in a folder that I name FSADDON; the path to the scenery then will be "C:/FSADDON/ESMA_Emmaboda". Of course anywhere where you usually place sceneries should work fine though. Please note that lakes and roads are included as a separate scenery, ESMA_L&W, which must also be added to and activated in FS2004; typical path: "C:/FSADDON/ESMA_Emmaboda/ESMA_L&W".

It is important that ESMA_Emmaboda is given a higher priority than ESMA_L&W in your Scenery Library, which means a lower number, otherwise the south end of the runway will be covered by woods!

This scenery has not been tested in FS2002, it´s only meant for FS2004.

Best used together with the included FSLandclass file (LCE05N21.bgl). Unfortunately the landclass files created with FSLandclass affect quite large areas but... Love it or leave it! If you have installed my Tingsryd (ESMW) or Borglanda (ESMB) scenery you will already have this file. The new version gives the airport a more realistic surrounding and also gives small improvements here and there around my earlier sceneries. It will give full compatibility with the Kalmar scenery from L&P and with the SDT Oskarshamn scenery. Please remove the old version and use this one instead.

The landclass file, LCE05N21.bgl, is best placed in "C:/Flight Simulator 9/Scenery/BASE/Scenery/". This folder is already active in Flight Simulator so no further activities are needed. There is no "texture" subfolder present in the "BASE" folder which is an advatage as such a subfolder seems to have a negative effect. Don´t forget to remove any earlier version of LCE05N21.bgl should you have one.
If you already have landclass files installed in another way you could most certainly do likewise with this one. The way specified above however seems to work well without any compatibility issues regarding other nearby sceneries.

The AFCAD file (AF2_ESMA.bgl) is to be placed in "C:/Flight Simulator 9/Addon Scenery/scenery". This file is absolutely necessary for the scenery to work as intended as the runway, taxiway and ramp are all built with Afcad. It adds 3 parking spots for small GA aircraft and makes it possible to create AI traffic with "Traffic tools". No lighting or other navigation facilities in this Afcad file; strictly for VFR flights (like the real airport)!

I would like to thank SDT team mate Hans Pålsson for all his help with providing me with photos of the field and it´s buildings (many of his photos are actually used in the textures) and with testing and trouble-shooting the scenery.

The scenery is tested with the default MS mesh, with FSGenesis´ Europe mesh and with Per Kruuse´s SwedenWest mesh without problems.

OTHER INFO
This is a VFR airport meant strictly for day time nice weather flying. In real life it is used as a training track by a driving school during weekdays - all flying here has to be executed on weekends! Once upon a time there where "approach lights" at the airport - consisting of three burnt-out 40 watt lightbulbs! And once Emmaboda was famous - in 1987 a Swedish crew mistook Emmaboda with the by far larger Kallinge and managed to land a Fokker F-28 on the strip. Since this aircraft is not to be found at the airport, they evidently managed to start again on the 1300 meters available...

I have tested the scenery at all times of day, seasons and weather situations without finding any large faults but there are certainly some that I have not noticed. Please feel free to tell me if you find any!
