BORGLANDA [ESMB]
for MS Flight Simulator 2004

Flight Simulator scenery covering Borglanda airport (ESMB) and it´s surroundings. Borglanda is situated near Borgholm on the island of Öland in southeastern Sweden. Version 1.0

Freeware scenery for FS2004 made with FSSC, EOD, Coast Line Maker, Afcad and FSLandclass.

This is a scenery by Erik Björnwall. You might also want to visit the SDT website!

INSTALLATION
To be placed and added to and activated in FS2004 in the usual way. I have found it best to place the scenery outside of the simulator in a folder that I name FSADDON; the path to the scenery then will be C:/FSADDON/ESMB_Borglanda. Of course anywhere where you usually place sceneries should work fine though.
Please note that coastlines, roads and waterclass changes are included as a separate scenery, ESMB_L&W, which must also be added to and activated in FS2004; typical path: C:/FSADDON/ESMB_Borglanda/ESMB_L&W.

This scenery has not been tested in FS2002 - try it at your own risk!

This scenery should be used together with the included FSLandclass file (LCE05N21.bgl). Unfortunately the landclass files created with FSLandclass affect quite large areas but... Love it or leave it! If you have installed my Tingsryd (ESMW) scenery you will already have this file. The new version does not change anything around Tingsryd but will give you a noticeable improvement of the nature on Öland and the east coast of the Swedish mainland. At the same time it will give full compatibility with the Kalmar scenery from L&P and with SDT´s upcoming Oskarshamn scenery. Please remove the old version and use this one instead.

The landclass file is best placed in a separate scenery folder with other landclass files. I use this path: C:/FSADDON/Landclass/scenery/LCE05N21. Do not use any "texture" subfolder in this folder as it might for some reason affect performance. Other installation paths might work too but I know that this one does. If this is a new folder structure this scenery must also be activated in FS2004.

In ESMB_L&W there is a waterclass file - ESMB_wc.bgl - that changes the waterclass in some areas close to the coast near Borgholm, to give an illusion of shallow water. The visual impact of this will of course vary depending on your use of MS default water textures or any third party textures. If you are not satisfied with the effect, just delete the file.

The AFCAD file - AF2_ESMB.bgl - is to be placed in C:/Flight Simulator 9/Addon Scenery/scenery. It adds 3 parking spots for small GA aircraft and makes it possible to create AI traffic with "Traffic tools". There is also a seaplane parking spot at the port of Borgholm. (The piers there are very rudimentary and not meant for close up watching; best seen from a distance of 1 km or more! No lighting or other navigation facilities in this afcad file; strictly for VFR flights (like the real airport)!

The included "runway13" textures are optional. I´ve made some changes to them to get better grass runways; it´s most obvious in the "hard winter" texture where the runway now is hard packed snow instead of a narrow mud stripe! These should be installed to the folder ...FS2004/Textures overwriting the default textures. Use at your own risk and do not forget to back up the default textures first!

The yachts are slightly remodelled macros by Jim Turner, the tanker at sea is a suitably resized MS "autogen macro", remainder is my own work. The photo used for the texture of the club house with the door opened was found on the web, but I have not been able to trace it to get the photographers permission to use it. Thanks anyhow; I hope you don´t mind!

Of course some other textures have their origin in other people´s freeware work but everything has been reworked to an extent where I can honestly consider it my own work.

I want to thank SDT team mate Hans Pålsson for all his help with providing me with photos of the field and it´s buildings (many of his photos are actually used in the textures), and with testing and trouble-shooting the scenery. Hans has also made it possible to fill up your tanks at Borglanda - the refueling area is a 10X10 meter square immediately to the west of the modelled fuel tank.

"SPECIAL FEATURES"
Notable landmarks in the scenery are the ruin of the Borgholm Castle, and "Solliden", the summer residence of the Swedish royal family, immediately to the west of the castle ruin. Down in the town of Borgholm you will find the church, the "Strand" hotel and the harbour. Roads and shore lines in the area are fairly correct.

OTHER INFO
The scenery is tested with the default MS mesh, with FSGenesis´Europe Mesh and with Lago´s mesh without problems.

Night textures are not complete but I can´t see that anything more is needed as this is a VFR airport meant strictly for daytime, nice weather flying. Using the airport at dawn and dusk will however provide you with slight variations of the club house textures. I have tested the scenery at all times of day, seasons and weather situations without finding any large faults but there are certainly some that I have not noticed. Please feel free to tell me if you find some. Comments and/or questions are welcome, write to erik.bjornwall@affv.nu
